Review: EasyAcc 2nd Gen. 10000mAh Power Bank

EasyAcc 2nd Gen. 10000mAh Power Bank PB10000CF

With mobile devices now a solid part of our daily lives, the quest for more battery-life is more important than ever. As a technophile I generally upgrade to the latest and greatest smartphone and tablets every year or so, and this means that my devices usually have the highest battery capacity available.

My LG G4 has a 3,000mAh battery, but sometimes that is just not enough. Recently, I have been spending long nights at a haunted house that my company, Terror Tech, uses as its proving grounds. I am often there until 2am, with some nights running into three or even four in the morning. This means that my phone has to last for more than 17-hours without a convenient charging source. Thankfully, manufacturers know this and have developed thousands of different portable charging devices. [node:read-more:link]

The Workbench: Episode #002 Better Alligator Clip Lead Storage

The Workbench Episode #002

Have you ever gotten fustrated with how tangled your alligator clip leads get when tossed in a drawer or on top of your workbench? I can honestly say that this is one of my biggest fustrations on my workbench, and I recently set out to solve this issue once and for all. Follow along in Episode 2 of The Workbench as I design a custom organizer to help store my alligator clios in Sketchup, and then 3D print it out on my Lulzbot AO-100 3D printer. Introducing the Makers Worbench VLOG! Episode #001 - Upcoming Projects, Reviews, and X-Carve

TheMakersWorkbench VLOGTMWB VLOG #001

We have been kicking around the idea of a Podcast for a couple of years now, and it has just never came to fruition due to lack of time, resources, and a few more makers to help host the show. Fortunately, I has decided to begin shooting a semi-daily VLOG (Video Log) of his daily activities, and to use as a platform to engauge our readers, subscribers, and anyone else who follows our content. This VLOG is more of a vehicle to help me become more comfortable infront of a camera, and to help better inform our followers as to what is happening here at TheMakersWorkbench.com. So head over to our YouTube Channel, like the VLOG video, and don't forget to click the subscribe button too!  [node:read-more:link]

Triggering a servo using an HC-SR04 distance sensor and an Arduino

Trigger A Servo With A Ping Sensor

This weeks tutorial revisits some of our past experiences with the HC-SR04 Ultrasonic sensor, and adds in a new element, the Servo! I decided to write up this tutorial as a resource for the students in my Young Makers class to follow in a project they are currently working on.  [node:read-more:link]

Using an Ultrasonic Distance Sensor to illuminate NeoPixels

Illuminating NeoPixels with an HC-SR04 Ultrasonic Distance Sensor

This is a really quick tutorial that will show you how to illuminate a sign when someone walks past it. I decided to write this simple tutorial after I hear one of my favorite makers, Jimmy Diresta, mention on a podcast that he has had clients ask him how to do something similar. Jimmy said that he knew that you could use an Arduino to do this, but was unsure of just how to pull it off.  [node:read-more:link]

DIY benchtop power supply using a BeQuiet PC PSU.DIY Benchtop Power Supply from PC PSU!

We would like to introduce our readers to The Workbench, a new web series that is designed to showcase DIY projects, EE tools and hardware, and general Maker - DIY projects in general. The series is being produced, and hosted by our own Charles Gantt, and will start off as a twice per month video series, with releases increasing as we gain more funding through our patrons at Patreon, and other sponsors. This weeks episode follows Charles along as he builds a DIY benchtop power supply from a kit produced by Sparkfun, and a 650W PC PSU from BeQuiet. Remember to head over to YouTube and subscribe to our channel and well as giving the video a thumbs up. Please feel free to share the video on your social media and with anyone you think might be interested. The more viewers we get, the easier it will be to begin a weekly release schedule.  [node:read-more:link]

How to install Windows 10 IoT Core on to the Raspberry Pi 2

Installing Windows 10 on a Raspberry Pi 2

Microsoft first announced that Windows 10 would be coming to the Raspberry Pi and other popular development hardware platforms earlier this year. This caused a huge stir in the Maker community, and especially around Raspberry Pi circles. Likewise the Window’s developer world was quite happy to hear this news as well. As for myself, being a Raspberry Pi user since its release, and a budding windows developer, I was quite excited to hear this as well. I even worked up a 3D printable Windows 10 case for the Raspberry Pi 2, and wrote a short article on it.  [node:read-more:link]
