3D Printing a stand for the 7-inch BB View LCD and BeagleBone Black

BeagleBone Black BB View 7-inch LCD Stand

3D Printed Stand for 7" BB View and BeagleBone Black

While working on a series of projects for Element14 I found the need to mount a 7-inch BB View Touchscreen LCD to something that would easily allow for development around the screen. A quick search on Thingiverse yeilded me several BeagleBone Black cases, but only one stand for the 7-inch BB View Touchscreen LCD. Fortunately this mounting solution was exactly what I was looking for! It allowed me to mount the screen at an angle for better desktop viewing, as well as providing a mount behind the screen for the BeagleBone Black and the BB View Cape. I printed the entire mount in a plate on my Lulzbot AO-100. Total printing time was about an hour with a 0.35 layer height and an average print speed of 60mm/sec. Infill was set to 0.60 and support was turned on at default settings in Slic3r.  [node:read-more:link]

Overview of the PIEP system from E3 Embedded Systems

Overview / Review of the E3 Embedded Systems Processor Independent Embedded Platform PIEP development Kit

Processor Independent Development Has Arrived!

About a year ago, I was contacted by a friend who told me about a company local to my area who I had to meet. After some email exchanges, we agreed to meet at my Makerspace, theClubhou.se, on a warm Saturday morning in September of 2013. When I arrived at theClubhou.se I was greeted by Kevin Huffman and Chad DeMeyers, owners of E3 Embedded Systems.  Along with them was my longtime friend, Chris Williamson, who was consulting on E3’s exciting new development system they were calling the PIEP system. During that first meeting, E3 began shooting portions of their Kickstarter video, and I was filmed while offering my opinion on the system. Below is that video.  [node:read-more:link]

Brace Yourselves, Processor Independence Is Coming!

Preview of E3 Embedded Systems' PIEP Development System

About a year ago I was approached by a company called E3 Embedded Systems about consulting on a new development board project they were working on. I met with them at my local Makerspace, theClubhou.se, and we spent the better half of the day talking about their system, its goals, and what could make it better. I stayed in touch with E3 over the next several months, and just a few weeks ago, I received the very first full set of their new Processor Independent Embedded Platform, or PIEP for short. Voltivo 3mm Excelfil Candy Yellow ABS Filament

Voltivo Excelfil Candy Yellow 3mm ABS 3D Printing Filament

Quick review of Voltivo's Excelfil 3mm Candy Yellow ABS filament

I spent some time tonight with Voltivo's Excelfil 3mm Candy Yellow ABS and the word amazing does not begin to describe it. I printed out two of these faceted vases in about an hour total. Each vase cosisted of a three-layer base and a two-wall verticle shell. I was expecting the Excelfil Candy Yellow ABS to perform well, but I can honestly say that this filament prints better than anything I have tried before. It measures a consistant 3.01mm and fits in my Lulzbot Taz 3 snugly.  [node:read-more:link]
