RGB LED Under-Shelf Bench Lighting

Our work bench has been lacking adequate lighting for some time now. Recently I ordered a 3 Meter RGB LED strip-lighting kit off of ebay to play around with. After a few weeks of staring at the pretty flashing colors, I snapped out of the trance and decided that the kit would make the perfect low profile under shelf lighting that I have been needing. So After some measuring, cutting, soldering and hot gluing, the end result is a thing of beauty. The LEDs are so bright that I am able to work at the bench with the room lighting turned off, and as a bonus, I am able to host raves in my office. [node:read-more:link]

Review: Lulzbot AO-100 3D Printer Part 1

Review of the Aleph Objects / Lulzbot AO-100 3D PrinterWhen we lost our original workshop in a home fire back in 2012, we also lost our almost completed RepRap along with everything else. While we have been able to replace most of the hardware and tools that were lost, a new 3D printer seemed to be far on the horizon for us, and was simply too expensive of a project to dedicate funds to at the moment. As most of our readers have already noticed, we have a new sponsor here at TheMakersWorkbench.com! Lulzbot.com was gracious enough to set us up with one of their AO-100 3D printers for review, as well as opting in for some banner advertising space. We can not thank them enough for their generous donation and their support of the maker community. [node:read-more:link]

LifeCam Studio Webcam mount for MendelMax based printers

Printable WebCam Mount for RepRap Mendel Max or Lulzbot AO-100 / AO-101I knew that I would be doing a ton of recording and live broadcasting of prints on my Lulzbot AO-100, infact I purchased a second Microsoft LifeCam Studio to serve as a dedicated printer cam. At first I thought a simple mini tripod would get the job done, but quickly found that not to be the case. Prints that had decent head travel, and very few tight infil spaces did fine, but when the infil got tight and the head had to change directions repeadly very fast, the whole table shook. This caused the webcam to display a "wavy" video and even cause the top heavy mini tripod to walk off the table a few times. So I decided to design a solid mount that would secure the webcam to the printers base.  [node:read-more:link]

Review: Silverstone EC01-P+ & CP09 Internal USB 3.0 Accessories

Silverstone EC01-P+ and CP09 reviewUSB 3.0 has been out for some time now and it seems that motherboard and chassis manufacturers have finally gotten on the same page and standardized an internal USB 3.0 header. Unfortunately for a lot of enthusiast out there, this came a little too late and they had already purchased a high end PC case that came with front USB 3.0 ports that had to be routed out the back of the case and plugged into the motherboards female USB 3.0 jacks. Silverstone recognized this as a major problem and has developed two nice pieces of hardware that frees up our rear USB 3.0 jacks and moves the front port cables back inside where they belong.

Our Arduino Due Overview posted on Element14

Arduino Due Overview

When I first got my Arduino Due in the mail I searched the web for a simple overview to help me better understand what new features Arduino is bringing to the table with the new development board. After finding next to nothing I decided to write my own general overview post in hopes that it would help out someone in a situation similar to mine. The Due was sent to me by Element14 and is part of some content I am creating for them. I just posted my first installment, which is an overview of the Arduino Due. Head over and check it out!  [node:read-more:link]

32bit Arduino goodness arrives on the bech in the form of Due thanks to Element14!

Arduino Due unboxing, micro review, mailbagThe Arduino Due has been out for a little bit now and we finally have one on our workbench! Element14 has sent me a Due so I can create some content for their Arduino section in the element14 commuinity. I will be working alongside element14 vets such as Jeremy Blum, and Dave Young to bring everyone some awesome information and content based around the Arduino Due. For my part I will be writing a blog post or two as well as building a RAMPS style RepRap / 3D Printer controller board with some exciting new features. If there is anything you would like to know, or see the Due do, please contact me or leave a comment and I will try to work it in.  [node:read-more:link]
