The internet has been abuzz about the new $5 Raspberry Pi Zero since it was announced last week, and if you are anything like I am, you have already started planning projects around this new incredibally cheap development board. It appears that I am not the only one either, as a company called Altitude Technology has taken the liberty of drawing up a set of SMD and Through Hole footprints in Eagle CAD for the new Zero. These footprints are blank except for the GPIO Pin placements and the mounting holes.
Frazer Barnes, the man behind the footprints says that he managed to get his hands on a new Raspberry Pi Zero from the cover of the MagPi magazine, and instantly set to work creating the footprints. Ultimately he decided that it would be more fun to share the footprints with everyone, and that is just what he has done.
" I was lucky enough to get my hands on the new Pi Zero which was available with the MagPi magazine and of course ideas started to get tossed around the room... And with it’s ultra small design the Raspberry Pi Zero is going to be a great tool for building all manor of cool devices. I myself can’t wait to get ubuntu snappy on my PiZero and seeing what can be done," said Barnes. "And so I though the natural starting point was to get some eagle symbols ready so we can start designing right away. And so I thought I would share them with the community so we can all start playing as soon as possible."
You can head over to Barn's post on Altitude Technology for a free download of the Eagle footprints.
Additionally, Raspberry Pi Forum user peter6960 has also created and released an Eagle Footprint for the new Zero as well. If you are an Altium Circuit Maker user you should easily be able to import either of these footprints using CircuitMaker's Eagle Import Tool as well.
