UNI-T States a $659 Starting Price for the MSO1000HD 12-Bit Oscilloscopes

On December 13, 2025, Circuit Cellar reported that Uni-Trend Electronics US had announced the MSO1000HD series of high-resolution oscilloscopes, and that article printed a price, so I'm using that as the date. An earlier UNI-T US post, dated August 5, 2025, had already described the MSO/UPO1000HD family as available through authorized distributors with a 3-year warranty. The sources don't share one clean first-press day, so I'm not inventing one. TMWB hasn't tested these scopes.

An oscilloscope draws voltage against time, which shows you the shape of a sag or a bad edge that a meter can't. MSO means mixed-signal oscilloscope, with analog waveforms and digital lines on one timebase. The UPO1000HD is the non-MSO sibling, and no separate specifications are given for it.

What are the models and prices?

Circuit Cellar prints prices starting at $659. That's the entry number and doesn't price every bandwidth, the generator, or the logic probe. A quick-start extract names four MSO models, all with 4 analog channels: the MSO1154HD and MSO1154HD-S at 150 MHz, and the MSO1254HD and MSO1254HD-S at 250 MHz. The -S models include a generator. The same article describes one loaded configuration as 12-bit, 200,000 waveforms per second, 100 Mpts of memory, and nine instruments in one, "under $900."

What about sample rate and memory?

UNI-T's news page says 2.5 GSa/s on a single channel (2.5 billion samples per second), and the all-channel rate isn't stated. Memory is 100 Mpts. Dividing 100 million by 2.5 billion gives 0.04 seconds, so 40 ms in the best case, enough for a serial burst or the start of an inrush. Waveform capture rate is where the sources disagree, with Circuit Cellar saying 200,000 per second and the August post saying up to 1,000,000. I'm not picking one. The screen is a 7-inch capacitive touch display.

What are the logic lines, generator, and nine instruments?

The series has 16 digital channels with an optional UT-M26 logic probe, so don't assume the probe is in the box. Without it you have no logic clips on the board. UNI-T's "nine instruments" are an oscilloscope, logic analyzer, generator (-S models only), spectrum analyzer, digital voltmeter, counter, protocol analyzer, Bode plot, and power analysis. The -S generator is 1 channel at 25 MHz, enough for audio tones, sensor drives, and filter checks.

Protocol decoding covers RS232/UART, I2C, SPI, CAN, CAN-FD, LIN, and Audio. A Bode plot graphs gain and phase against frequency, which shows how a filter or control loop responds. Also listed: a 7-digit counter, a 1 Mpt FFT (math that turns a time record into amplitude against frequency), and a 12-function power analysis suite, though the twelve aren't named.

What does a 12-bit converter do for the signal?

The Circuit Cellar article names an "R12 Premium 12-bit ADC." An analog-to-digital converter turns a voltage into a whole number, and a 12-bit one has 4,096 levels against 256 for an 8-bit scope. That's 16 times as many codes across a similar full-scale span. The difference shows up when a small ripple sits on a larger DC rail: set the vertical range tall enough to hold the rail, and an 8-bit converter can turn the ripple into a staircase, while 4,096 codes keep it measurable. Twelve bits don't multiply bandwidth, since a 150 MHz front end is still 150 MHz.

ERES stands for enhanced resolution, a digital averaging mode that the article says goes up to 16-bit. Averaging neighboring samples smooths the trace, but it isn't the same as a 16-bit converter, because the extra displayed bits come from processing after the conversion. The text doesn't say what bandwidth the mode costs.

What are the protocols and measurement tools?

The article says the included protocol decoders are RS232/UART, I2C, SPI, CAN, CAN-FD, LIN, and Audio. UART is async serial with no separate clock wire, I2C and SPI are chip-to-chip buses (I2C shares a clock and a data wire among chips, and SPI uses a clock, data, and a select line), and CAN, CAN-FD, and LIN are vehicle buses, with CAN-FD allowing a faster data phase with longer frames. The Audio decoder's frame format isn't spelled out.

A Bode plot graphs gain and phase against frequency, showing how a filter or control loop responds. The scope includes a digital voltmeter (a numeric voltage reading beside the waveform), a 7-digit counter, and a 1 Mpt FFT, the math that turns a time record into amplitude against frequency. The power analysis suite is described as 12 functions, which the summary doesn't name. The "nine instruments in one" count is UNI-T's own and includes the generator, which is only on -S models.

What are the dates and warranty?

An earlier UNI-T US post, dated August 5, 2025, described the MSO/UPO1000HD family as available through authorized distributors, with a 3-year warranty. The December 13 Circuit Cellar article is the one that prints a price, so I've used it as this article's date. The UPO1000HD is the non-MSO sibling, and the sources don't give it a separate spec list.

What does it cost, and where can you buy it?

Circuit Cellar prints prices starting at $659, which is the starting price Uni-Trend US stated in the December 13 article, and it doesn't price every bandwidth, the generator, or the logic probe. One loaded configuration is described as 12-bit, 200,000 waveforms per second, 100 Mpts of memory, and nine instruments in one, for "under $900." The August 5 UNI-T US post said the family is available through authorized distributors.

Where does it fit?

It's a 4-channel bench with 12-bit conversion and a logic port for people who don't want a flagship price. The matching board has a DC rail and a chip bus on one timebase, with the UT-M26 attached. Still unsettled: the all-channel sample rate, which capture rate applies when, the UPO1000HD specs, and the Audio frame format.
